Reusable wool diapers

We're not going to talk here about sweaters that itch, or carpets... we're going to talk about the characteristics of 100% merino wool. One of my favorite fibers. Merino wool has "the power of comfort" and when we are comfortable our bodies perform better and we feel better. This fiber has been used for millions of years by humans for its natural properties and benefits. These characteristics, combined with their durability, inspire many clothing designers looking for quality fabrics.

merino wool

Wool fiber is produced with a mixture of fresh air, sun, grass and water. It is natural, biodegradable and renewable. Composed of a natural protein called keratin that is biodegradable, similar to human hair protein. When discarded, Merino wool decomposes in nature within a few years, slowly releasing important nitrogen-based nutrients back into the earth, acting as a fertilizer.

These are the main characteristics why I love the fiber of merino wool. The characteristics we need in a wool cover, in a garment for the little ones and even for us adults. In the next posts, we'll talk about each of our brands, the origin of the wool they use and the certifications.

Properties that make wool a unique fabric

Soft and Comfortable

Suave

Merino wool fibers are extremely fine, allowing a luxuriously soft feel when in direct contact with the skin.

elastic

The fabric's natural elasticity allows for the creation of naturally elastic garments. Allowing complete freedom of movement. Which makes them great for babies, children and adults.

Breathable

Merino wool absorbs up to 30% of its weight in water allowing it to absorb a large amount of steam. The liquid is then repelled to the outside in the form of vapour. The garment remains dry, reducing diaper rash and dermatitis.

hot and cold

Merino wool fiber is an active fiber, it reacts to body temperature, allowing the body to be warm in winter and cool in summer.

easy care

odor resistant

As the merino wool fiber absorbs steam, it reduces body perspiration. So the smells are absorbed by the fabric until it is washed. The same happens when used as diaper covers. The pee is absorbed, the moisture repelled to the outside and we don't need to wash it with each use.

Waterproof and stain resistant

The merino fiber has a natural protection that prevents the absorption of stains. Renewing the natural fiber lanolin we allow the fiber to repel liquids and prevent stains.

machine washable

Many brands already produce fabrics in merino wool that allow machine washing, making it easier to wash. Some brands with machine washable items: SloombEngel, etc.

We don't need to iron

Merino fiber is like a spring, once bent it returns to its natural shape. This characteristic makes the fabric wrinkle-resistant.

a safe fiber

fire resistant

Merino wool acts as fire retardant, does not melt and does not stick to the skin.

Natural barrier against UV rays

The protection against UV radiation of merino wool is superior compared to other synthetic fabrics or even cotton.

Healthy

Merino wool regulates body temperature and heart rate, which improves sleep.
